HANNIBAL, Mo. — The Hannibal-LaGrange University women's soccer team picked up a strong 3-1 victory over Central Baptist College on Tuesday night, using three second-half goals to pull away from the Mustangs at home.

After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, the Trojans broke through early in the second half. Stephanie Hernandez opened the scoring in the 49th minute, finding the back of the net at the 48:15 mark to give HLGU a 1-0 advantage.

Just over four minutes later, the Trojans doubled their lead when Brooke Dollard converted a penalty kick in the 53rd minute. Dollard's goal pushed HLGU's advantage to 2-0.

Hernandez struck again in the 65th minute, scoring her second goal of the night at 64:42 to give the Trojans a commanding 3-0 lead.

Central Baptist answered in the 79th minute when Gaviota Urias found the net, cutting the deficit to 3-1. The Trojans' defense, however, held firm over the final 11 minutes to secure the victory.

HLGU controlled much of the attacking play throughout the contest, finishing with a 17-12 advantage in shots and a 4-3 edge in corner kicks. The Trojans also put eight shots on goal compared to eight for Central Baptist.

In goal, Elizabeth Henry turned in a strong performance for HLGU, recording seven saves while allowing just one goal across the full 90 minutes.

Hernandez led the Trojans offensively with two goals, while Dollard added a goal of her own. Hernandez finished with four shots on goal, while Dollard recorded one shot on target.

The Trojans will look to carry the momentum from Tuesday night's victory into their next contest.
